About Balance Counseling & Therapy

Our Story

In Stark County, Janet Richards was working as an experienced counselor but saw notable gaps in traditional care. Alongside her husband, Dan Richards, they chose to establish Balance Counseling & Therapy with one goal: to create a space where clients could heal, grow, and rediscover hope. Centered on trust and individualized support for various conditions, Balance Counseling & Therapy continues to support the local community today.

Over the years, our approach has relied upon a foundation of person-centered and trauma-informed care. That’s why we prioritize therapies that focus on clients’ strengths and individual needs and offer evidence-based treatments including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), plus innovative approaches such as Rapid Resolution Therapy and Ketamine-Assisted Therapy.

Our Mission: Compassionate, Personalized Care to Help You Grow

At Balance Counseling and Recovery, we aim to provide compassionate, personalized care for individuals seeking healing and growth. Since our inception, our practice has always prioritized cultivating a space where clients can find balance, hope, and empowerment. We believe in meeting clients where they are, fostering growth, and guiding them toward lasting change.

Together with our founder, Janet Richards, our dedicated team includes professionals like Alex Lenardos, who brings expertise in CBT and trauma-focused care, and Amy Kennaugh, known for her empathetic support in navigating life’s challenges. With all that we do, we ensure that clients receive thoughtful, person-centered care that helps them feel seen and supported.

Accessible, Affordable Therapy for All

We’re proud to serve a diverse range of clients, including adults and adolescents struggling with behavioral issues, mental health concerns, addiction, and life transitions.
